FAQ - Client Registration procedure in BME with device and BCS

This article explains the registration procedure for Clients (Devices, BCS) in BME. The registration process has been simplified in the BME using the activation code. During registration, the certificate, license and other details are automatically transferred to the Clients.

Notes
The activation code mechanism with BME On-Premise server is supported only with devices running FW3.x and BCS v20.x

Devices:
The devices should be setup by navigating through the Startup wizard on the display. The wizard helps to configure different settings on the device. However, in the below section only steps relevant to server registration are described.
Notes
For headless device without display, the startup wizard should be navigated using the 'TBS Remote' mobile app.

Alternatively, starting from FW 3.04.x, devices can be registered using the 'Setup Server Connection' option in DeviceConfig (located under Settings → Server Communication) to obtain the activation code. This option can also be used for other device types to register the terminal using a remote access to the site.
  1. In the "Mode" selection page, choose the mode as SERVER - TBS BIOMANAGER ENTERPRISE for On-Premise installation. In case of BioManager Cloud, choose the CLOUD option.
  2. After the network connection is completed, configure the server details in 'TBS BIOMANAGER ENTERPRISE' page (applicable only for BME On-Premise installation). Enter the respective server IP address or hostname configured during BME installation. In case a different port than default 8808 is used, then enter it under 'Port'.
  1. The activation code is displayed if the terminal is able to successfully connect with server over network.

  1. Log in to the BioManager interface, navigate to Clients page and click " +" (to the top right corner) to add a client into BME and enter the code displayed on the device. Configure the device details and enable the required flags (Active, Remote Control, Enroll). In case Zone management is enabled, assign the device to respective Zone.

  1.  Press 'Finish' to complete the registration process on the device screen. The device should load the database from the server and display the idle page.
Notes
If there are no biometric templates enrolled in the server, then the biometric sensor is not active on the device. In this case, enroll the users using the DeviceConfig interface or admin interface on the terminal by adding an ADMIN user with PIN code. For 3D FLASH+ terminals, the DeviceConfig Interface needs to be accessed on the port 8808, for ex: https://<device-ip>:8808

Biometric Client Service (BCS):
After installing the BCS, follow the below steps to register it with BME:
  1. Open BCS Config (http://localhost:8281) on the browser and navigate to 'Server Connection' menu. Then choose the mode as 'TBS Server' (On-Premise) or 'TBS Cloud'.
  2. Click on the 'Setup Server Connection' button to configure the server settings. Enter the respective server IP address or hostname configured during BME installation. In case a different port than default 8808 is used, then it has to be modified. Click Next.
  3. Activation code is displayed if the BCS is able to successfully connect with the server over network.
  1. Log in to the BioManager interface, navigate to Clients page and click " +" (to the top right corner) to add a client into BME and enter the code displayed on the BCS Config. Configure the BCS details and enable the required flags. In case Zone management is enabled, assign the device to respective Zone. The client should be validated and displayed as online (filled green circle) in clients page.
Notes
In  case  BCS  would  not  connect  to  BME, it could be a problem with certificates. In case, BME certificate is generated by the BME installer, then this certificate has to be installed on the BCS client machine by copying the 'CertInstaller' folder from BME installation directory under 'Tools' folder to client machine and executing the 'install-on-client-local-machine.bat' file with admin privileges. Then, go to BCS  configuration  page  ‘Security’  and  switch certificates from  ‘Default (TBS or public)’  to ‘Windows certificate store’.
  1. Click 'Finish' to complete the registration process on BCS Config.
  1. The server connection status could be verified on the Status page of the Open the Enrollment Client, check under settings, if the server connection is obtained as per the BCS Interface. BCS Configuration can also be  checked on the Client side as shown below:
