FAQ - Door control with TBS devices - Firmware 1.xx

Question

What options does TBS offer to control doors?

Answer for Firmware 1.xx

For Firmware 2.xx please see this article (coming soon)

A standard access door is equipped with electronic lock, door status and push button. To manage these components TBS devices require either RelayBoard or SmartController (SC) or SmartController+ (SC+). These controllers provide relays, inputs and outputs required to manage the door.
All 2D devices feature an internal relay, but its just a dry contact (requires external power to control the lock). The internal relay is by default normally open and cannot be switched to normally closed contact.

The SC is phased out and not shipped anymore. The RelayBoard is a functionally reduced version of SC and still available to order. The SC is replaced by advanced SC+ which supports both RS485 and LAN interfaces. Using LAN interface its possible to control single SC+ from multiple devices.

The 'Door Control' profile bundles all settings required to control standard doors and is available from firmware version 1.09.9/1.10.9. The 'Door Control Profile' technote explains the profile concept and configuration details, the picture below shows the various settings available through DeviceConfig web interface:

The config package mentioned in the document is attached with this article.
  1. Profile_DoorControl.tbs  => for SmartController+ connected via RS485
  2. Profile_DoorControl_LAN.tbs  => for SmartController+ connected via LAN
  3. Profile_DoorControl-SC.tbs  => for RelayBoard connected via RS485

For simpler installations requiring to control just the lock, individual actions could be defined instead of installing the profile. Please use menu 'Device settings - Actions' to reach the page below, marked settings are examples for manually controlling relay (yellow) resp. configure push button via GPIN (red):

To use controllers in actions they must be first enabled on I/O Controllers page:

Since RelayBoard is a functionally reduced version of SmartController please use this type instead.
