FAQ - Guidelines for activating Clients in Miniserver BME

This article provides the guidelines to activating Clients in BioManager ENTERPRISE (BME) running in MiniServer.

In BME, Clients are validated using an activation code, which involves dedicated WebSockets (WS) channel within BME. Once activated, Clients (only devices) by default maintain a continuous connection to the WS channel for remote operations like Remote Enrollment and configuration directly from BioManager.

In Miniserver, the number of parallel WebSockets channels is set to 10 as per the Windows 10 operating system edition displayed below. The Enterprise edition is used in Miniserver.

As a result, activating additional clients can deplete the available WebSockets (WS) channels and could prevent the addition of more clients (no activation code is received). To circumvent this behavior, its recommended to disable the Remote Control flag for the appropriate Client after activation using BioManager interface under Clients page. It instructs the device to not maintain a permanent connection to WS channel.

The flag is not available in BME versions prior to R20.2. In such cases, disable the following option in DeviceConfig after activation.

The Client type 'Biometric Client Service (BCS)' does not require this setting, since its not permanently connecting to the WS channel after activation.
The below table illustrates the TBS recommendations for max number of devices with remote control flag enabled permanently. It is derived based on the above OS limits.
