HowTo - Clean TBS Devices

HowTo - Clean TBS Devices

This article describes the procedure how to clean and disinfect TBS devices.

Step 1: Cleaning

Prior to disinfection the devices should be cleaned to remove dust or dirt.

Warm water with a few drops of soap works well, you can also use a combined cleaning & disinfection liquid normally used to wash hands, but don’t use aggressive detergents.

Use soft towels for cleaning only.

Optical sensors are protected by a glass covering that withstands most chemicals. However pay attention never to use aggressive chemical cleaning agents; these could attack plastic coatings around the sensor or the device itself.

Please pay special attention when cleaning capacitive touch sensors, never use aggressive chemicals or hard cleaning sponges that risk scrubbing the sensor surface.

Step 2: Disinfection

TBS devices can be disinfected with antiseptic liquid, e.g. Sagrotan, Dettol or a similar disinfectant applied as a spray.

User behaviour

The effect of disinfecting biometric readers is limited, a thorough approach to hygiene must include user education. Employees have to be instructed to wash hands properly and use sanitizers.

Statement from WHO: Clean your hands with an alcohol-based hand rub or wash them with soap and water. Avoid touching your eyes, mouth, or nose.

For further information please refer to WHO guidelines regarding personal hygiene here:

3D AIR

The touchless sensor in 3D AIR is protected by a transparent vitreous body.

Clean the vitreous body with water and soap only (no aggressive detergents) and your fingers only (don’t use abrasive tools that would leave scratches).

Make sure the vitreous body is clean and dry.

3D LIGHT

This device is touchless as well and users stand 32 to 45 cm away from the device, therefore disinfection is ususally not needed.

TBS offers unique devices for touchless access control or time & attendance registration, see video:

CLEANING SUMMARY:

Clean using water with hand-soap and clean towels only.

Disinfect with alcohol-based agents.

Never use hard sponges which would scrape sensor or device surface.
