FAQ - RFID configuration to read card UID/CSN

The TBS terminals by default try to read the TBS ID from Mifare Classic and Desfire card. The TBS ID is written in a custom location of the card using USB RFID Writer (bought from TBS) in Enrollclient 4 desktop software.

If there is no TBS ID present in the card, then its not recognized by the terminal. A simple alternative is to read the card UID/CSN.
Its also possible to read 3rd party custom ID from card. For Mifare Classic and Desfire cards, please refer to article https://help-center.tbs-biometrics.com/portal/en/kb/articles/faq-rfid-custom-card-configuration  on how to configure. In case of other technologies, please contact TBS support.

To read the UID/CSN of card, please apply appropriate packages (attached) using DeviceConfig web interface.
  1. RFID_UID_Decimal_Format - to read in decimal format.
  2. RFID_UID_Hexadecimal_Format_v2 - to read in hexadecimal format, starting with MSB first and then to LSB.
  3. RFID_UID_Hexadecimal_LsbToMsb_Format - to read in hexadecimal format, starting LSB first and then to MSB.
The UID is not a secure information on the card and can be easily duplicated.

TBS recommends to enter the card number in user FlexID field, since it can be freely modified in case the user is issued a different card. In that case, the RFID ID field in DeviceConfig (under Device Settings/Primary ID field) should be set to FlexID.

To know the exact card number read by device:
  1. FW 2.06.10 and newer: In DeviceConfig under Settings-RFID page, enable either 'Device EventLog reporting' or 'BioManager EventLog reporting' and check in the respective EventLog page.
  2. Older FW : Apply 'RFID_ReadingInEventLog_ON' package to enable the logging of card number read in device event log (DeviceConfig-Maintenance-Event Logs). It can be disabled after use by applying 'OFF' package.
